There are many ways to behave considerately and responsibly as a tourist and contribute to the sustainability of the region. Here are a few of our suggestions:

Tips

  • turn off the lights as soon as you leave your accommodation
  • do not tilt the windows in your accommodation, but ventilate them regularly
  • keep radiators free and regulate the heating temperature in rooms carefully
  • do not leave appliances, such as televisions, on standby for long periods of time
  • do not shower too long, because 1 minute shorter shower already saves 20% of energy
  • use cold water for washing hands or brushing teeth

Would you like to make an even greater contribution to a "more sustainable Gstaad"? Learn more in the articles below - the next generation thanks you already!

Travel to us as sustainably as possible!

Why not travel by train? The regular bus and train connections ensure a relaxed journey to our destination. Most activities are easily accessible by public transport. Many employees already commute by train or bus, making a significant contribution to environmental protection. Several locals use e-bikes as a means of transport. Why don't you try it too? And public transport is included in the ski ticket in winter. So you can leave your car at your accommodation and take the train or bus to the ski station.

Let us inspire you with our regional products

Regional shopping plays a major role in sustainability. Many shops, including wholesalers, offer a wide variety of regional products. Several farms have farm shops – mostly self-service. Enjoy!

Enjoy our drinking water without PET directly from the tap

The public water supply in the Municipality of Saanen was put into operation as far back as 1902. Drinking water is the most important resource and is subject to strict hygiene requirements. Saanen has a total of twelve spring catchments and two groundwater catchments. High-quality drinking water flows from all taps throughout Saanenland and you can fill up your water bottle at the 15 public fountains at any time, free of charge and without hesitation. So drinking Saanen water is good for you and for our planet.

Only a careful use of their energy reserves allows wild animals to survive the harsh mountain winter. That is why there are wildlife rest areas and wildlife sanctuaries. Here, the needs of the animals have priority. Winter sports activities and other uses are therefore often restricted. However, the winter landscape still offers enough space for humans and animals. You can find more info about the game rest zones in the ski area of the destination Gstaad on our interactive map in green - plus more interesting facts about the topic and the general FIS rules for correct behavior on the slopes. We thank you for your consideration.

Regulate your heating remotely

By regulating the heating in second homes at the appropriate time, up to 2200 GWh of energy could be saved in Switzerland each year. This is why Gstaad Saanenland Tourism has called on all second-home owners to take part in the MakeHeatSimple campaign run by SchweizEnergie. The campaign is about installing remote controls for heating systems. This would allow the heating to be turned up to room temperature before leaving for the holidays and then down again to an "energy-saving" level after the holidays.

Trail Keeper Days

We are regularly organising voluntary "Trail Keeper Days" with our trail builders and in cooperation with our communities. On these trail maintenance days, we as hikers/mountain bikers/trail runners would like to give something back to the Gstaad region and help for a day with the maintenance and upkeep of the region's trails. So that we also have an attractive and well-maintained network of paths in the future. Because this is not something that can be taken for granted, the Trail Keepers make their contribution and actively lend a hand. There is always a lot of fun, dirt, the certainty of having improved a trail and a delicious snack.
