Hike in the varied, exceptional landscape around the Sanetsch lake. Especially in autumn, the region on the border with Valais is a colorful feast for the eyes.

The hike starts with a comfortable gondola ride from Gsteig. Those who prefer to walk will be uphill for 2-3 hours. Once at the top, the day's destination is already in sight: the Sanetsch reservoir. The mostly flat circular trail leads through a diverse fauna. At 2252 meters above sea level, lush pastures alternate with rocky slopes. Good surefootedness is required in some places. The cold mountain lake provides cooling on a warm hiking day - in the form of a short swim or a soothing footbath. After the round hike, a stop at the Auberge du Sanetsch is not to be missed. The small restaurant spoils its guests with local specialties.

With the post bus it is also possible to cross the pass into the Valais.

The gondola lift operates daily from mid-June to the end of October.

Tip of the author
Those brave enough will certainly want to enjoy a refreshing dip in the lake’s cold mountain waters. Tired hikers, for their part, can cool their feet instead. Climbers can choose from a multitude of very fine climbing routes with various degrees of difficulty. More detailed information is available from the local mountain guide offices.
